Phillip Wilkerson - Familiar Voices

Work piles up, customer snapping at your heels, and team members falling behind. Man, it’s only Tuesday and this week may never end. With headphones slipped on, Phillip Wilkerson‘s Familiar Voices (Amorphos Music) washes all of that away. A peaceful drone and a gentle guitar are much more effective than Calgon, though a bubble bath would feel good right about now. Only a 15-minute EP, Familiar Voices is as soothing as it is interesting. Wilkerson writes that Familiar Voices is incidental music, “music that came to be recorded through a process of serendipity, rather than by intent.” It would be a mistake for the listener to make this ambient music your background. Like all good ambient music, Familiar Voices deserves the listerner’s full attention. On a side note, it would be great if Wilkerson would branch Amorphos Music to include other artists who, as he writes, make “spacious and contemplative ambient compositions wrapped around warm, flowing textures; minimalist-inspired compositions; and drifting, amorphous soundscapes.”
