Over a year after the release of Ísland (Distance Recordings), Voder comes forth with Fields (Just Not Normal). Like its predecessor Fields is a tough ambient album — meaning not ambient for wusses —, though Fields seems to be more experimental in its execution and tighter, more controlled. I don’t know if much of the tightness is due to a change in netlabels or maybe just the maturing of the artist, either way we are the better for it. The six track release is an accomplished work. Just when you think Voder will fall victim of “ambient” cliches, the artists eases the listener into a different refrain, a new thought.
